    • Middle name may have been Alerkin or Alerick. He lived at 2818 Taylor Ave, Minneapolis, MN. House is still being lived in (found on Google). Owned land in Carver Co, MN 1898 but never lived on the land nor developed it.

      On later census reports it shows he began receiving an annuity because he had become deaf. This is probably why he sold the business on Shakespeare Str, Dumfries. It must have been a large annuity as he raised all of his children on it along with having servants & sending at least 1 son (Thomas W) to Edinburgh University. I have not discovered whether the deafness was caused by accident or illness. He always seemed to have money because when he immigrated to US (along with 2 later trips to England/Scotland) he & the rest of his family traveled 1st/2nd class accomodations. He also purchased some very expensive property outside of Minneapolis which he did not live/work. On census reports he called himself a Farmer but I cannot find any evidence he lived or worked on a farm.

      Traveled to Buenos Aires in 1866 to purchase hides for Tannery business.
